Save the Department of Education. Demand Congress Reject the Radical Assault on Public Education Now!

Following Elon Musk's and Trump's direction, House Republicans have introduced H.R. 899 — a bill that would completely eliminate the U.S. Department of Education. If they succeed, the consequences will be absolutely devastating for millions of Americans — especially our children.Dismantling the Department of Education would mean: No more federal student loans. Pell Grants, work-study, and income-driven repayment programs? Gone. Millions of students would lose critical financial aid, making college even more unaffordable. Even more students would be forced to take out predatory loans with high interest, saddling them with debt for life and limiting their opportunities. No national protections for students with disabilities. The Department of Education ensures students with disabilities receive the resources they need. Without it, states could gut funding and leave millions of students behind. No Title IX enforcement. The Department of Education enforces protections against discrimination, sexual harassment, and attacks on LGBTQ+ students. If it’s abolished, Republican-led states could roll back rights and protections entirely. No federal funding for the school districts and states that need it most, widening the achievement gap between students in high-income school districts and those in already disadvantaged communities. This isn’t just bad policy — it’s a direct assault on millions of students, teachers, and families nationwide. But the good news is, we can stop it. If House Democrats stand united, they only need three Republicans voting against this bill to block its passage. First, we've got to show our representatives just how important it is to save the Department of Education. Sign on now to make your voice heard.

We need to act quickly to stop this radical attack on public education — 9 in 10 American students attend a public school. Public school funding is crucial to preparing our next generation for success and ensuring our students have the opportunities and support they deserve.
